Stratford Central Kindergarten

Atawhaitia te rito, Kia puawai to Tamaiti.
Nurture the tender shoot, so that the child will bloom.

At Central Kindergarten we believe that each child and their whanau/family are unique and come with their own set of beliefs, gifts, interests, abilities and expectations. Our aim is to nurture, support and encourage each child. We will work in partnership with your whanau as we all embark on your child's journey of learning. We hope to grow in our children, the skills they will need in order to become life-long learners.

For Central Kindergarten the metaphor of the harakeke is important and for us it means:

  • The new inner shoots are the children, new life, the future, the hope.
  • The leaves that lie next to these new shoots, and out to the edge of the harakeke are the whanau, the centre, the community.
  • The flowers that rise from the harakeke are the hope, the gifts, the imagination, the wondering, the questions of the children. The [bell bird] people enjoy and celebrate the gifts of the flowers and know in it's seed lies the future.

Philosophy

At central kindergarten you will see children engaging in a peaceful manner with an essence of fun, curiosity and growing strong and resilient. Our children follow their dreams and aspirations alongside teachers and peers who also delight in these elements. Within this environment we honour the dual heritage of Aotearoa, New Zealand and through an awareness of the concepts of a sustainable environment; we hope to create within the minds of the future, tolerance, respect and a sense of the interconnectedness with their world.

For all learners at Central Kindergarten we value and support:

  • Respect
  • Creativity
  • Humour
  • Curiosity
  • Thinking interdependently
  • Awe and wonderment
  • Trustworthiness
  • Persistence and resilience
  • Thinking and communicating with clarity
