Hawera Kindergarten is nestled within large park like grounds. The kindergarten environment is welcoming, engaging and challenging.

Philosophy

Our teaching team believes building respectful relationships with each child and their family/whanau will strengthen teaching, learning and the sense of belonging within our environment.

The paua provides the metaphor for our philopshy which unfolds as follows:

• Like the paua and its shell...Every learner has potential to do well and share their inner qualities.
• Like the rock the paua attaches itself to, to grow big and strong... Every learner needs to feel protected and safe in a caring and understanding environment
• Like a paua needs a rock for security, sea water to feed and time to grow... Every learner needs to have access to great resources and people who care, understand are patient and accept them as they are.
• Like the paua's inner shell... Every learner has inner beauty and self worth, which may not always be seen or appreciated at first glance.
• Like the merging colours of the inner paua shell... Every learner reflects the awesome family/whanau, iwi/peoples and hapu/community they belong to.
• Like the beautiful merging colours in the paua shell... Our kindergarten reflects and celebrates the merging of colourful personalities, culture, values and beliefs.
