The Great Start 100% website is the New Zealand Kindergartens campaign site to rally support for kindergartens in the face of the Government funding cuts kindergartens face in 2011.
All NZK Associations (including South Taranaki) have pledged ongoing commitment to employing qualified early childhood teachers in regulated (ratio) positions - that is what the 100% is referring to. But from 2011 the Government will only fund us for up to 80% qualified staff. We are saying that less than 100% qualified teachers is not good enough for children and families, a stand that is backed by a considerable body of research as you will see on the site.
The right to a qualified teacher should not depend on shoe size - we need support from families to get this message through to those that make the funding decisions.
